India Accelerates AMCA & Tejas Mk2 Fighter Jet Programs with Critical New Tenders

AMCA Tejas Mk2 development

Tech Desk: India’s Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is significantly fast-tracking the development of its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and Tejas Mk2 fighter jet programs by issuing multiple critical engineering tenders. These recent procurement packages signal rapid progress toward key milestones for both indigenous defense projects.

A major focus is on advanced structural health monitoring. A new tender for a Fiber Optic Optical Sensing Systems Suite will equip aircraft with real-time telemetry, measuring strain, temperature, pressure, and acceleration. This is crucial for composite materials used in modern stealth designs, providing vital data during test flights for both the AMCA and the Tejas Mk2.

Concurrently, the ADA is expediting the creation of a next-generation Flight Data Management System (FDMS). This software-centric initiative aims to efficiently process the immense data streams generated during test flights, enabling rapid analysis and validation of performance. The aggressive timeline suggests a readiness for the Tejas Mk2’s anticipated mid-2026 maiden flight.

Most tellingly, a tender for the AMCA’s “Systems Installation Detail Design” highlights the program’s advanced stage. This complex phase involves intricate planning for wiring, hydraulics, and avionics within the stealth airframe’s restricted space. With prototypes expected to fly between 2028-2029, this design work is a vital step toward India’s indigenous stealth fighter.
