Embraer Eyes India: Defence & Commercial Aviation Push Signals Major Expansion

Embraer India expansion

Tech Desk: Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer is making a significant strategic play in India, aiming to dramatically expand its footprint across both defence and commercial aviation sectors. The company’s CEO, Arjan Meijer, highlighted India’s immense potential, projecting up to 500 aircraft deliveries over the next decade.

Embraer’s ambitious strategy involves a dual-track approach. A key development is the collaboration with the Adani Group to establish a regional aircraft manufacturing facility in India. Simultaneously, Embraer is pitching its KC-390 Millennium transport aircraft for a crucial Indian Air Force program, signaling a strong commitment to the country’s defence modernization.

With nearly 50 Embraer aircraft already in service in India since 2005, the company sees the rapidly growing Indian civil aviation market as a prime opportunity. Embraer is ready to set up final assembly operations, contingent on securing sufficient airline orders, particularly for its E195-E2 jet, which is seen as ideal for connecting smaller cities under India’s regional connectivity initiatives like UDAN.

The company’s new New Delhi office, opened in October 2025, serves as a central hub for these diverse operations, encompassing defence, business aviation, services, and urban air mobility. Embraer’s deep integration into India’s aviation ecosystem, supported by government programs like ‘Make in India,’ positions it for substantial growth.
