According to Bloomberg’s reliable Mark Gurman, while no major changes are expected for the upcoming Series 12 and Ultra 4, the tech giant is exploring radical redesigns for its next-generation smartwatches, possibly a year or two out.

This strategic shift aims to compete with emerging wearables like Whoop, which prioritize discreet, display-less health tracking. Gurman’s report suggests Apple is considering diverse options, including new devices devoid of screens, along with a wider array of screen types and sizes. This could mean expanding beyond the Ultra and Hermès with more premium offerings, while simultaneously introducing a more affordable Apple Watch than the current SE model.

Beyond these ambitious display and pricing strategies, Gurman also predicts a return of the beloved ceramic case option in 2026 or 2027. Expect to see new watch colors, band options, and upgraded health and fitness features across the board. Regardless of the final form factor, these next-gen smartwatches are also slated to deeply integrate with the revamped Siri, promising a more intuitive and responsive user experience.
