IAF Acquires Bunker Busters to Target Pakistan’s Strategic Defence and NG-ADC2C

IAF Bunker Busters Pakistan Strategic Defence

Tech Desk: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has reportedly acquired advanced deep penetration bunker busters, signaling a significant escalation in India’s counterforce capabilities. These specialized weapons are designed to neutralize Pakistan’s newly established Strategic Complex Defence centre and its Next-Generation All-Domain Command and Control Centre (NG-ADC2C).

Key to this new capability is the modified Agni-V missile system, now tailored to carry massive conventional warheads weighing 7,500–8,000 kg. These warheads can penetrate 80–100 meters underground, enabling India to destroy fortified bunkers, missile silos, and critical command centers. Two warhead types are under development: an airburst variant for surface devastation and a deep penetrator for subterranean targets.

The destruction of Pakistan’s NG-ADC2C would cripple its ability to coordinate multi-domain operations, while targeting the Strategic Complex Defence center threatens critical nuclear and missile infrastructure. This strategic move follows the successful destruction of two of Pakistan Air Force’s Next Gen Mobile Mission Control Centres, exposing vulnerabilities.

Analysts warn that this development blurs the line between conventional and nuclear warfare. Pakistan, potentially unable to distinguish between conventional and nuclear payloads, might interpret such strikes as a nuclear first strike, raising serious risks of escalation. This reflects a doctrinal shift towards counterforce pre-emption for India.

For India, the acquisition of these IAF Bunker Busters Pakistan Strategic Defence capabilities offers unprecedented operational flexibility, allowing precision strikes against hardened underground facilities without immediately resorting to nuclear options. It marks a new, more complex phase in South Asia’s strategic competition.
