Tech Desk: Indian and US Army contingents recently demonstrated formidable joint firepower during the ongoing ‘Yudh Abhyas 2026’ exercise in Rajasthan. The major artillery drills, held at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, saw M777 Ultra-Light Howitzers, indigenous Dhanush guns, Pinaka rocket launchers, L70 air defence guns, and the cutting-edge Mobile Low, Slow, Small Unmanned Aircraft Integrated Defeat System (M-LIDS) in action. This comprehensive deployment underscored a significant leap in interoperability and mutual operational understanding.

The live-fire exercises were a highlight, with both armies engaging simulated threats, including drones, through a layered response system. Observation post detachments meticulously practiced target identification, coordinate relay, and fire command execution, ensuring precision and rapid response under realistic combat conditions. This integrated approach covered the full spectrum of battlefield fire support, from detection to engagement.

‘Yudh Abhyas 2026’, the 22nd edition of this annual bilateral exercise, is also taking place at the Auli Foreign Training Node. With approximately 600 personnel from each side, the focus extends beyond artillery to Integrated Battle Groups, mountain operations, drones, autonomous systems, and long-range precision fires. The Indian Army emphasized that such joint training facilitates the exchange of best practices, strengthening coordination and enhancing the forces’ ability to operate seamlessly across diverse environments.

The exercise not only sharpens tactical skills but also deepens the strategic partnership between India and the United States, fostering a robust framework for future collaborative defense efforts.
