Tech Desk: India’s drone sector has experienced an extraordinary acceleration, with its revenue dramatically increasing from just Rs 60 crore in 2021 to an estimated Rs 3,000-4,000 crore currently, projected to hit Rs 4,000 crore by 2025. This phenomenal expansion is largely attributed to the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision, spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has fundamentally reshaped the nation’s drone landscape.

Smit Shah, President of the Drone Federation of India, highlighted the critical role of the Drone Rules Policy 2021, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and a strategic ban on foreign drone imports. These three pillars have not only liberalized the operating environment but also provided crucial financial backing and a protected market for domestic manufacturers, fostering a vibrant ecosystem.

The impact is evident across both military and civilian applications, with Indian-made drones proving their mettle in various operations. This robust growth trajectory is set to continue, as Shah forecasts the industry to swell further, potentially reaching a staggering Rs 19,000-20,000 crore in the upcoming years.
