Google has officially broken ground on its monumental $15 billion investment in India, establishing a gigawatt-scale AI hub in Visakhapatnam. This landmark project, announced on April 28, 2026, signifies Google’s deep commitment to fostering India’s technological advancement and digital infrastructure. The initiative is slated to unfold over five years, from 2026 to 2030, aligning with the nation’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

The AI hub will feature three expansive data center campuses, augmented by robust subsea cable connectivity and a focus on clean energy integration. This colossal undertaking aims to bolster India’s capabilities in artificial intelligence and support its burgeoning digital economy. Beyond the technological infrastructure, Google is investing in community empowerment. Over 1,000 local workers will receive training for infrastructure roles, and more than 1,200 students will gain crucial skills in cloud and AI technologies. Furthermore, the project will support over 10,000 women entrepreneurs through specialized business training, alongside initiatives for water sustainability and fisheries modernization.

The Bharat AI Shakti Conclave, held concurrently, aims to transform this investment into a broader industrial corridor, emphasizing local sourcing and SME integration into global supply chains. This strategic development positions Visakhapatnam as a pivotal center for AI innovation and digital growth in India.
