Tech Desk: India’s premium MPV segment is set for a significant upgrade as Kia has officially opened pre-bookings for the highly anticipated Carnival hybrid. Set to launch soon, this new variant promises enhanced efficiency and performance, building on the Carnival’s established luxury appeal with a cutting-edge strong-hybrid powertrain.

Under the hood, the Kia Carnival hybrid borrows the robust 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Sorento, now paired with a more potent electric motor. This advanced setup delivers a combined output ensuring a smooth yet powerful driving experience, coupled with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Importantly, the existing 2.2-litre diesel engine variant will continue to be offered alongside this new hybrid option, giving buyers more choice.

While the exterior design largely mirrors its diesel counterpart, save for a distinctive HEV badge on the tailgate, the cabin introduces welcome new features. These include a virtual engine sound system and retractable, height-adjustable seat-back tables equipped with wireless phone chargers. The Carnival hybrid retains its luxurious amenities, such as dual 12.3-inch screens, 3-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, 8 airbags, and Level 2 ADAS for comprehensive safety.

Positioned as the flagship offering, the Carnival Limousine+ hybrid is expected to command a premium over the current diesel variant, which starts at Rs 59.65 lakh (ex-showroom). This launch underscores Kia’s commitment to offering advanced, eco-conscious options in the Indian market, setting a new benchmark for luxury MPVs.
