Tech Desk: Maruti Suzuki has significantly upgraded its popular S-CNG lineup, introducing automatic variants for the Swift, Dzire, and Baleno. This marks a pivotal moment for buyers seeking the dual benefits of factory-fitted CNG efficiency and the effortless driving experience of a five-speed AMT. Starting at Rs 7.92 lakh (ex-showroom), these models promise to redefine urban commuting.

The Dzire S-CNG AMT stands out, boasting an impressive 36.47km/kg fuel efficiency, claiming the title of India’s most fuel-efficient sedan. The Swift S-CNG AMT follows closely at 35.34km/kg, with the Baleno S-CNG AMT delivering 34.47km/kg. This potent combination of eco-friendliness and automatic transmission addresses a long-standing demand from consumers.

All three vehicles are powered by Maruti’s new Z12E 1.2-litre petrol engine, featuring dual variable valve timing and idle start-stop technology. In CNG mode, the engine produces a reliable 69bhp and 102Nm of torque, paired with the AGS (Auto Gear Shift) transmission—essentially an AMT. This innovation allows clutch-free driving, a convenience previously unavailable in Maruti’s CNG range, though Tata has offered similar options for some time.

The new models are equipped with a 37-litre petrol tank and a 55-litre water-filling capacity CNG tank. Pricing for the Swift S-CNG AMT starts at Rs 7.92 lakh, the Baleno S-CNG AMT at Rs 8.32 lakh, and the Dzire S-CNG AMT at Rs 8.53 lakh (all ex-showroom). These strategic launches cater to a growing segment of buyers prioritizing both economy and driving ease.
