Tech Desk: Suzuki is making a significant leap into the electric vehicle market with its first-ever EV adhering to Japan’s ultra-compact ‘kei car’ regulations: the Suzuki e Sky kei car. Set to launch in autumn 2026, this groundbreaking model, previewed by the Vision e Sky concept, promises to blend efficiency with maximized cabin space, targeting urban commuters and environmentally conscious drivers. Its production design closely mirrors the concept, featuring a distinctly boxy, upright shape.

The exterior of the Suzuki e Sky prioritizes practicality, boasting a compact footprint with square LED headlights and wraparound LED taillights. While the concept’s full-width DRL bar is replaced by a sleek black textured trim, the overall aesthetic remains clean and modern. Despite its compact nature, the e Sky’s dimensions are designed for interior roominess, making it taller but shorter and narrower than models like the S-Presso, perfect for navigating tight city streets.

Inside, the e Sky offers a surprisingly tech-forward cabin. Drivers will find a large touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s display, complemented by a 3-spoke steering wheel with physical controls. Space-saving innovations include a dashboard-mounted drive selector and integrated cupholders. Crucially, the e Sky is expected to support Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging, enhancing its utility, alongside features like automatic climate control and push-button start/stop.

Under the hood, the Suzuki e Sky is anticipated to feature a front-mounted electric motor delivering around 64hp, aligning with strict kei car power limits. Reports suggest an impressive claimed range of approximately 310km, a significant upgrade from the concept’s 270km. While its primary launch is in Japan, speculation is rife about an India launch, where it could emerge as an affordable entry-level electric hatchback, potentially rivalling the MG Comet EV.
