ASEAN Envoys Marvel at BrahMos Facility, Signalling India’s Defence Export Prowess

BrahMos facility inspection

Tech Desk: A high-level delegation of ASEAN diplomats, led by Singapore High Commissioner Simon Wong, recently undertook a significant BrahMos facility inspection in New Delhi. This landmark visit offered direct insight into India’s formidable defence production capabilities, particularly highlighting the sophisticated engineering behind the world-renowned BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

The strategic engagement underscores a burgeoning interest among Southeast Asian nations in India’s indigenous military systems and technological advancements. The BrahMos system, capable of deployment from land, sea, and air platforms, demonstrated its exceptional flexibility and precision-strike capabilities, reaching speeds of Mach 2.8 to Mach 3.0.

This inspection follows a crucial $375 million export contract with the Philippines in 2022 for three shore-based anti-ship BrahMos batteries, with initial deliveries completed in early 2024. This success has spurred interest from other nations like Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia, who are now exploring potential purchases of maritime and coastal defence variants.

India is rapidly scaling up manufacturing and integration processes in Hyderabad and Lucknow to meet this growing demand, both domestically and internationally. This surge is supported by significant government initiatives promoting self-reliance and innovation within the defence sector, cementing India’s position as a rising global defence exporter and strategic partner.
