IAF Boosts Indo-Pacific Security with Major Australia, Malaysia Exercises in 2026

IAF Indo-Pacific Security Exercises 2026

Tech Desk: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has significantly bolstered Indo-Pacific security by successfully concluding two pivotal international air exercises: Pitch Black 2026 in Australia and Udara Shakti 2026 in Malaysia. This dual-nation deployment showcased the IAF’s impressive operational reach, advanced tactical capabilities, and growing commitment to strengthening strategic defence partnerships across the vital Indo-Pacific region.

During Exercise Pitch Black 2026, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), the IAF deployed its frontline Rafale fighter aircraft, operating alongside air forces from over 20 nations. This complex Large Force Employment (LFE) mission scenario, conducted in a high-threat, multi-domain environment, proved crucial for seamless tactical integration and enhancing interoperability among coalition partners.

Immediately following its Australian deployment, the IAF contingent transitioned to Subang, Malaysia, for Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Here, IAF aircrew engaged in high-intensity combat sorties and joint tactical manoeuvres alongside Malaysian Su-30MKM and F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, further refining air combat tactics and operational flexibility.

Beyond flying operations, these exercises fostered broader cooperation, including vital exchanges on maintenance practices, mission planning, and professional interactions between personnel. Such engagements are instrumental in strengthening professional camaraderie and enabling participants to learn from diverse operational procedures, aligning with India’s expanding defence engagement in the Indo-Pacific.

The IAF’s participation underscores its unwavering commitment to regional stability and advancing collaborative security initiatives. These regular joint training engagements are vital for maintaining combat preparedness and developing the crucial interoperability needed to address complex security challenges effectively in the future.
