This dual-nation deployment showcased the IAF’s impressive operational reach, advanced tactical capabilities, and growing commitment to strengthening strategic defence partnerships across the vital Indo-Pacific region.

During Exercise Pitch Black 2026, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), the IAF deployed its frontline Rafale fighter aircraft, operating alongside air forces from over 20 nations. This complex Large Force Employment (LFE) mission scenario, conducted in a high-threat, multi-domain environment, proved crucial for seamless tactical integration and enhancing interoperability among coalition partners.

Immediately following its Australian deployment, the IAF contingent transitioned to Subang, Malaysia, for Exercise Udara Shakti 2026 with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Here, IAF aircrew engaged in high-intensity combat sorties and joint tactical manoeuvres alongside Malaysian Su-30MKM and F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets, further refining air combat tactics and operational flexibility.
