The Indian Air Force (IAF) is on the cusp of a significant strategic upgrade as it evaluates the integration of Russian UPAB-1500 glide munitions into its formidable Sukhoi Su-30MKI fleet. This move aims to dramatically extend the Su-30MKI’s stand-off strike range and lethality against high-value, fortified enemy targets, ensuring greater aircraft survivability.

The UPAB-1500B, a 1,525-kilogram precision-guided bomb, can glide up to 50 kilometres when released from high altitudes, keeping fighter jets safely outside the reach of advanced air defence systems. Equipped with a massive 1,010-kilogram concrete-piercing warhead and a sophisticated guidance system combining inertial navigation with GLONASS/GPS, these IAF UPAB-1500 glide munitions promise pinpoint accuracy with a Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than 10 metres.

This makes them ideal for neutralizing hardened military installations like underground bunkers and command centers.
