DRDO’s New Power Move: Pinaka Mk-3 to Strike Targets 120 km Away, Trials to Begin in Early 2026!

Pinaka Mk3 System

India is taking a massive leap forward in the defence sector! The DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) is gearing up for the new version of its Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher System, the Pinaka Mk-3. This advanced system will be capable of striking targets precisely 120 kilometres away, which is set to be a game-changer for our army. The long-range firing trials for this system are now scheduled to begin in early 2026, pushing back the earlier timeline of late 2025.

What makes the Pinaka Mk-3 so special?

This new version is built with technology far superior to the Guided Pinaka, which had a range of 75 kilometers. It utilizes an Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Satellite Navigation to ensure the rockets reach their targets with pinpoint accuracy. DRDO‘s Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) has already completed the pre-production version.

The best part about this system is its compatibility. It can be fired from the existing Pinaka launchers, meaning no new platforms are required. This will not only reduce costs but also make upgrades much easier. This development will significantly reduce our dependence on older imported systems like the Russian ‘Smerch’ or ‘Grad’, empowering our army to destroy high-value targets deep within enemy territory. The system’s reliability is already proven, as it has been successfully exported to Armenia.

Production and Future Plans

Once the trials are successful, the Indian Army will fast-track the procurement process, with the deal estimated to be worth around 2,500 Crore rupees. The army aims to boost production through Defence Corridor Production Partners (DCPP) like Solar Industries and Munitions India Limited, ensuring supply begins within 18-24 months of placing the order.

And that’s not all—in the future, we can expect the Pinaka Mk-4, boasting a range of up to 300 kilometers! This will further strengthen our defence against threats from neighbours like China.
