Tech Desk: The 22nd edition of the India-US bilateral military exercise, Yudh Abhyas 2026, marks a significant leap in tactical complexity with the active involvement of the Indian Army’s newly inducted AH-64E Apache attack helicopters. These state-of-the-art aircraft are spearheading joint aviation operations with US forces, dramatically enhancing combined operational readiness and strategic interoperability across diverse terrains.

Staged simultaneously in Uttarakhand’s high-altitude Auli Foreign Training Node and Rajasthan’s arid Mahajan Field Firing Range, the exercise sees approximately 600 personnel from each nation. The AH-64E Apaches, fully inducted into the Indian Army’s 451 Aviation Squadron by late 2025, are crucial for perfecting ground force coordination, real-time battlefield communication, and precision target engagement in highly realistic combat scenarios, pushing the boundaries of joint warfare.

According to the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI), the drills aim to forge a unified fighting force capable of navigating varied battlefields. These comprehensive exercises cover everything from small-arms engagements and artillery fire to long-range weapon deployment and combined-arms tactics, preparing both armies for complex future threats.
