Tech Desk: RCI’s Request for Proposal (RFP) for the refurbishment of the 8×8 PRAHAR launcher marks a pivotal moment for India’s PRALAY missile operations. This strategic move aims to integrate a comprehensive communication suite, significantly enhancing the operational capabilities of the indigenous tactical ballistic missile program. The upgrade is critical for establishing robust and redundant communication links, vital for command and control during missile launch sequences.

The scope of work involves integrating SATCOM, Line-of-Sight (LoS), and data & network subsystems into the existing PRAHAR launcher. This advanced communication suite will ensure seamless internal communications within the launcher and reliable external links to the Battery Command Centre via multiple channels, including fibre-optic. RCI will supply the core hardware, while the selected firm will handle integration, cabling, and structural strengthening.

The refurbished PRAHAR launcher, equipped with advanced SATCOM and LoS systems, will boast a telescopic mast and SATCOM antenna mechanically integrated onto the driver’s cabin. This design ensures operational flexibility and survivability in varied battlefield conditions, aligning with global trends in network-centric warfare.

The communication links will undergo rigorous validation, including trials at RCI Hyderabad and two flight trials at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.
