Xiaomi 18 Fold Unveiled: This Passport-Style Foldable Takes Aim at Apple’s iPhone Ultra

Tech Desk: Xiaomi has just upped the ante in the premium smartphone segment with the launch of its new passport-style foldable, the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Positioned as a direct challenger to Apple’s anticipated iPhone Ultra and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, this device makes a bold statement with its unique wide-format design and powerful internals.

Launched strategically ahead of Apple’s iPhone event, the Xiaomi 18 Fold boasts an unusually wide inner display, designed to enhance multitasking with the ability to run three apps simultaneously. Weighing a mere 219 grams and only 5.02mm thin when unfolded, it prioritizes a sleek, portable user experience that feels closer to a conventional smartphone when closed.

Under the hood, the 18 Fold is powered by Xiaomi’s self-developed XRing O3 AI processor, which the company claims offers superior responsiveness compared to Apple’s A19 Pro. This is paired with LPDDR6 memory and storage options ranging from 256GB to a massive 1TB. The device also stands out with a striking cherry red finish, adding a touch of premium aesthetics.

Currently priced between 10,999 yuan (₹1,54,776) and 14,999 yuan (₹2,11,064) in China, international availability is yet to be confirmed. The Xiaomi 18 Fold’s debut signals Xiaomi’s serious intent to capture the high-end foldable market, forcing rivals to take notice.
