On the auspicious occasion of Makara Sankranti, the sacred town of Mayapur in Nadia district witnessed a profound spiritual milestone with the inauguration of the newly constructed Shree Shree Gaura–Nitai Temple at Sreenathpur. Established under the initiative of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, the inauguration was marked by a vibrant four-day-long religious and cultural festival that attracted a large gathering of devotees.

Guided by the spiritual vision of Shreela Bhakti Swarup Tirtha Maharaj, the event transformed the temple premises into a radiant centre of devotion. From early morning rituals to late-night spiritual performances, the atmosphere remained deeply immersed in faith, celebration, and collective spiritual upliftment.

In the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is worshipped as Gaura, while His closest associate and eternal companion Nityananda Prabhu is revered as Nitai. Since Mayapur is the divine birthplace of Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the establishment of a Gaura–Nitai Temple in its vicinity holds exceptional spiritual significance for devotees across the world.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of numerous saints, spiritual leaders, and devotees from nearby regions, across the state, from different parts of India, and even from abroad. Throughout the four days, daily worship rituals, nama-sankirtan, and the continuous distribution of mahaprasad drew hundreds of devotees each day.

Evening programmes became a major attraction, especially the religious dramas performed by artists from Vrindavana, which left the audience spellbound. From afternoon till late night, the temple resonated with devotional songs, kirtans, and theatrical presentations depicting the life, teachings, and philosophy of Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Temple servitors Radharamana Dasa, Raasabihari Dasa, and Vishvaksena Dasa shared that the founding acharya, Shreela Bhakti Swarup Tirtha Maharaj, has been spreading the universal message of Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu across the globe for more than three decades. During his extensive spiritual journey, he observed a gradual decline in faith and devotion among people. To rekindle this spiritual consciousness, he envisioned and established this temple near the Lord’s birthplace.

Constructed over nearly five acres of land, the temple complex was completed within an impressive one and a half years. The ground floor features a spacious banquet hall, while staircases on both sides lead to the second floor, where a revered photograph of Gurudeva Shreela Bhakti Swarup Tirtha Maharaj is placed. The temple sanctum houses the divine deities of Jagannatha, Balarama and Subhadra, Gaura–Nitai, Narasimhadeva, Prahlad Maharaj, and Om Vishnupada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya 108 Shree Shreemad Bhakti Shreerup Bhagavat Goswami Thakura.

According to the organisers, the newly established temple and its ongoing spiritual activities are expected to play a crucial role in nurturing the spiritual and cultural life of the region in the years ahead. Devotees unanimously believe that the inauguration of the Gaura–Nitai Temple marks the beginning of a new and sacred chapter on the pilgrimage map of Mayapur, further strengthening its global spiritual significance.
