A renowned kidney hospital celebrated its 4th anniversary in a meaningful and energetic manner by organizing a large-scale Walkathon titled “A Walk for Your Kidney” on Sunday morning at Salt Lake, Kolkata. The initiative highlighted the importance of regular physical activity—particularly brisk walking—in maintaining healthy kidneys and preventing lifestyle-related diseases.

The Walkathon began at 7:00 a.m. from the hospital campus located at Salt Lake, and saw enthusiastic participation from nearly 1,000 people. Participants from various age groups joined the event, reflecting a growing awareness and collective responsibility toward healthier living.

The event gained further momentum with the presence of eminent personalities from the fields of sports, entertainment, administration, and healthcare, who walked alongside participants to spread awareness about preventive kidney care and the importance of adopting healthy daily habits.

Prominent attendees included Mr. Leander Paes, legendary Indian Tennis Player; Ms. Priyanka Sarkar, Actress; Ms. Piyali Basak, Mountaineer; Mr. Aneesh Sarkar, DCP Bidhannagar; Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Founder & Director of the hospital; and Mr. Ashish Mittal, Director of Golden Tulip Hotel, along with several other distinguished guests.

Addressing the media, renowned Nephrologist Dr. Pratim Sengupta explained the core philosophy behind the initiative. He emphasized that the completion of four years reflects the hospital’s strong commitment to promoting health and prevention, rather than focusing solely on treating illnesses.

“As doctors, we firmly believe that healthcare should prioritize prevention. Walking is the easiest and most effective form of physical activity. It keeps the heart healthy, supports kidney function, and enhances both physical and emotional well-being,” Dr. Sengupta stated. He also appreciated the participation of over a thousand citizens and the involvement of iconic personalities such as Leander Paes, describing the collective effort as truly commendable.

Dr. Sengupta further added that this Walkathon is not a one-day event but part of the hospital’s ongoing mission to inspire people to incorporate healthy habits into their everyday lives.

The event successfully brought together fitness, awareness, and community participation, reinforcing a powerful message—that small daily steps like regular walking can lead to significant long-term health benefits, especially when it comes to kidney care.
