SpaceX Starship V3 Launch Scrubbed Moments Before Liftoff

SpaceX Starship V3 launch

Tech Desk: SpaceX’s highly anticipated first SpaceX Starship V3 launch was dramatically scrubbed just moments before liftoff from Starbase, Texas. The critical test flight, marking the debut of the upgraded third-generation hardware, faced a last-minute halt due to a hydraulic issue with the launch tower arm. This comes at a pivotal time for SpaceX, which is weeks away from its IPO, placing immense pressure on the company to showcase meaningful progress in its next-generation rocket program.

CEO Elon Musk confirmed on X that a “hydraulic pin holding the [launch] tower arm in place did not retract.” This twelfth Starship mission, following an October 2025 attempt, is vital for validating the numerous enhancements in Starship V3. These include streamlined Raptor engines for increased thrust and design modifications aimed at preventing propellant leaks and improving reusability, akin to the Falcon 9.

While this flight won’t attempt full recovery, with both the booster and Starship expected to perform soft water landings, it’s a crucial step towards proving the mega-rocket’s capabilities. SpaceX heavily relies on Starship V3 to deploy its Starlink satellites, a major revenue driver, making reliable launches paramount for the company’s ambitious future plans. SpaceX plans to try again Friday at 5:30 p.m. local time, pending overnight repairs.
