Tech Desk: X has rolled out a completely rebuilt Android app, marking “one of the largest engineering projects in the company’s history” and promising a vastly improved user experience. After acknowledging its Android version lagged behind iOS in performance and features, the social media giant undertook a ground-up reconstruction using a new Kotlin + Jetpack Compose foundation. This isn’t just an update; it’s a fundamental overhaul designed for speed and reliability.

Users can now expect a significantly faster, smoother, and more stable X experience. The redesign addresses critical areas like loading times, scrolling fluidity, and notification delivery, making daily interactions feel far more responsive. Head of Product, Nikita Bier, emphasized that this modernization will also enable X to introduce new features at “lightning speed,” ensuring the platform remains cutting-edge.

While the app is feature-complete, X is actively refining aspects like Hosting Spaces, optimizing performance for older Android devices, and enhancing the Video Editor and ‘React with Video’ functionalities. This global rollout via the Google Play Store signals a major commitment to its Android user base, delivering a high-quality, modern application that finally stands on par with its iOS counterpart.
