BMW Vision CE Electric Scooter Patent Filed in India: Helmet-Free Riding & Self-Balancing?

BMW Vision CE electric scooter

Tech Desk: BMW Motorrad has filed a design patent for its radical BMW Vision CE electric scooter concept in India, indicating the German giant is seriously evaluating the country as a potential market. Unveiled at IAA Mobility 2025, the Vision CE offers a glimpse into BMW’s future of electric urban mobility, with patents already secured in multiple global markets.

The centerpiece of the BMW Vision CE electric scooter is an innovative safety concept featuring a metal tubular cage. BMW suggests this, combined with an integrated seatbelt, could allow riders to forgo traditional helmets and riding gear, drawing a direct parallel to its C1 scooter from 25 years ago. This revolutionary approach prioritizes rider protection through integrated bodywork.

Beyond safety, the Vision CE boasts a self-balancing system, eliminating the need for riders to put their feet down when stationary. While powertrain specifications remain unreleased, BMW describes it as having an emission-free electric drive. Its low-slung design and long wheelbase echo the aesthetics of the existing CE 04.

BMW Motorrad already sells the CE 04 electric scooter in India at Rs 15.25 lakh (ex-showroom). However, a design patent filing does not guarantee a production launch or India-specific details. BMW has yet to confirm when, or if, the Vision CE will enter production, even for global markets. Despite this, the patent hints at exciting possibilities for urban electric mobility in India.
