Op Sindoor Proved IAF’s Unmatched Reach; Indigenous Systems Delivered Crippling Blows, Says Air Chief

Op Sindoor

Tech Desk: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh has unequivocally declared that Operation Sindoor, launched in May 2025, cemented the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) capability to strike any target, anywhere. Following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, this pivotal operation spanned a massive 1,200-kilometre front, demonstrating air power as India’s foremost strategic deterrent and rapid response option against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied territories.

The success of Op Sindoor wasn’t just about reach; it was a testament to the IAF’s modern, capability-centric doctrine. This involved seamless integration of fighter aircraft, advanced sensors, munitions, and secure communication networks. Crucially, the operation highlighted the exceptional performance of India’s indigenously developed weapon systems. Platforms like the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, Astra missiles, and the Akash air defence grid delivered devastating strikes deep within enemy territory, all while maintaining a strict commitment to zero collateral damage.

Beyond offensive capabilities, India’s networked domestic air defence successfully intercepted numerous hostile drones and stand-off munitions. This underscored the effectiveness of multi-domain integration, drastically reducing decision-making times across air, land, maritime, space, and cyber domains.

While celebrating these operational triumphs, the Air Chief emphasized the need for continued vigilance. Future readiness priorities include expanding the combat fleet, boosting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) assets, and integrating artificial intelligence for rapid battlefield decisions. This strategic vision, aligned with ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, aims to establish the IAF as a technologically advanced, self-reliant global aerospace force.
