DRDO Eyes Precision Boost: Custom Pinaka MLRS Fire-Control Software for Guided Rockets

Pinaka MLRS fire-control software

Tech Desk: In a significant leap for the Indian Army’s precision strike capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is developing bespoke Pinaka MLRS fire-control software. This crucial upgrade aims to seamlessly integrate new Long Range Guided Rockets (LRGR) into the indigenous Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System, transforming it from an area bombardment weapon into a highly accurate precision-strike platform.

The Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune has issued a tender, signaling DRDO’s intent to acquire a custom digital system. Unlike conventional unguided rockets, which rely on basic ballistic calculations, guided munitions demand complex data exchange for mid-air flight corrections. This new software will calculate specific mission parameters and feed vital guidance and navigation data directly into the rocket’s internal computers pre-launch.

This customized Pinaka MLRS fire-control software will act as a digital bridge, integrating advanced flight parameters with existing command, control, and launcher systems. The development highlights a strategic shift, enabling artillery commanders to execute pinpoint strikes deep into enemy territory. This move ensures the battle-tested Pinaka platform remains at the forefront of modern warfare, significantly bolstering India’s defensive and offensive capabilities with enhanced accuracy and extended range.
