Meta Plus Subscriptions Launch: Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp Go Premium. Here’s What You Get.

Meta Plus subscriptions

Tech Desk: Meta has officially launched its highly anticipated “Plus” subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp globally, introducing premium features for users seeking an enhanced experience. Priced at $3.99 per month for Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus, and $2.99 per month for WhatsApp Plus, these new tiers aim to offer “richer ways to express and connect across our apps,” according to Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product. This move signals a significant shift towards monetizing core social media functionalities beyond advertising.

Subscribers can unlock a range of exclusive benefits. Instagram Plus users gain insights like Story rewatch counts, extended Story durations, anonymous viewing, and custom profile aesthetics. Facebook Plus mirrors many of these customization options while adding audience insights for engagement. WhatsApp Plus enhances messaging with app themes, custom ringtones, improved chat personalization, and premium stickers, promising a more tailored communication experience.

Importantly, these new Meta Plus subscriptions are distinct from the existing Meta Verified service, which focuses on verification and impersonation protection. Beyond the core social apps, Meta is also actively testing additional premium plans, including Meta AI subscription tiers like Meta One Plus and Premium, offering advanced AI capabilities for complex tasks. Separate plans for businesses and creators are also in the pipeline, designed to boost visibility and engagement, signaling Meta’s comprehensive strategy to diversify revenue streams.
