Tech Desk: India’s electric vehicle landscape is about to get a significant new player as Honda prepares to debut the production-spec Honda 0 Alpha EV on December 2. This highly anticipated all-electric SUV, whose concept was first unveiled in October 2025, marks Honda’s first foray into the country’s burgeoning EV market and its final name is expected to be revealed this November. Recent spy shots of a heavily camouflaged prototype hint at a design that promises to stand out.

While full technical specifications remain under wraps, Honda has confirmed the 0 Alpha EV will offer two battery pack options, both utilizing LFP chemistry. Capacities are projected to range from 65kWh to 75kWh, powering a single-motor, front-wheel-drive configuration at launch. These specifications suggest a strong contender in the mid-size electric SUV segment.

Visually, the production model is tipped to retain the radical silhouette of the 0 Alpha concept. Its distinctive profile features a near-vertical rear end and thick C-pillars, lending it an almost MPV-like stance. Expect a prominent rear windscreen, a protruding bumper likely housing a diffuser-like trim, and an illuminated Honda logo integrated into the front nose section, which will also discreetly house the charging port.

Inside, earlier spy images revealed a cabin focused on modern ergonomics and space. Highlights include a large central touchscreen complemented by a smaller digital driver’s display. A three-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters adds a sporty touch, while physical buttons on the centre console offer intuitive control for climate and ventilated seats. With an estimated wheelbase of 2,700-2,800mm, the Honda 0 Alpha EV prioritizes passenger comfort and luggage capacity, thanks to its upright tailgate.

Manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, the 0 Alpha EV is poised to challenge established and upcoming rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Maruti e Vitara, and Toyota Ebella, signaling a fierce competition in India’s electrified future.
