Tech Desk: Dassault Aviation is actively seeking an Indian partner to locally manufacture wings for its advanced Rafale fighter jets, a significant step poised to deepen Indo-French defence collaboration and accelerate India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities. This move expands on the existing fuselage production partnership with Tata Advanced Systems in Hyderabad, signaling Dassault’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The localization of Rafale wing production India is critical, as wings are among the most complex and precision-engineered components of a fighter aircraft. By building these domestically, India aims to strengthen its role in the global Rafale supply chain, enhance cost efficiency, and achieve greater operational sovereignty for its Air Force. This development is particularly timely given India’s ongoing negotiations for 114 new Rafale fighters, with nearly 90 expected to be manufactured domestically. Local wing production will significantly contribute to the target of 40-50 percent indigenous content, reducing reliance on foreign suppliers and creating thousands of skilled jobs. Firms like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Tata are expected to be frontrunners for this crucial partnership.
