Ather Scooters Get Battery Boost: LFP Cells Debut on Rizta, Faster Charging Across Models

Tech Desk: Ather Energy has rolled out a significant battery upgrade across its scooter lineup, introducing more efficient packs and debuting advanced LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) cells in the Rizta. This strategic move sees both the Rizta and 450 models receive revised battery capacities, yet remarkably, maintain or even slightly increase their IDC range, showcasing Ather’s engineering prowess.

For the family-focused Rizta, customers can now opt for LFP chemistry in the smaller 2.7kWh battery variant, alongside existing NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) options. Despite LFP typically having lower energy density, Ather has managed to keep the 123km range consistent. The larger Rizta pack, now 3.5kWh NMC, even sees a slight range bump from 159km to 161km, a win for efficiency and user experience.

The sporty 450 models continue to rely on NMC batteries, reflecting their performance demands. While capacities have been adjusted—the larger pack now 3.5kWh from 3.7kWh—the impressive 161km IDC range remains unchanged. Crucially, bigger battery variants across both models now benefit from a new, more powerful 900W portable charger, slashing 0-80 percent charge times significantly from 4.5 hours to just 3 hours and 12 minutes.

These updates come with no negative impact on customer experience, performance, or warranty, and prices remain unaffected. For Ather, the transition to smaller, more efficient packs and the integration of LFP cells offer crucial advantages in reducing production costs and enhancing supply chain resilience, proving that innovation can benefit both company and consumer.
