Redmi 17 5G

Tech Desk: The Redmi 17 5G has made its highly anticipated global debut, launching in Malaysia alongside a 4G variant. This new budget-friendly smartphone series from Xiaomi is turning heads, primarily due to the Redmi 17 5G’s astonishing 7,500mAh battery – a capacity rarely seen in its segment, especially for a global release. Both models also boast a fluid 6.9-inch 120Hz HD+ display and a capable 50MP main camera.

Interestingly, the global Redmi 17 5G differs significantly from its Chinese counterpart. While the China model featured a Unisoc T8300 chipset and a smaller 6,300mAh battery, the global version steps up with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor and that impressive 7,500mAh power pack. The Redmi 17 4G, on the other hand, is powered by a MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra chip.

Pricing in Malaysia starts at MYR 669 (approx. Rs 16,000) for the Redmi 17 4G, with the 5G model beginning at MYR 769 (approx. Rs 18,000). Both are currently available via Xiaomi’s online store. With its robust 5G connectivity and faster UFS 2.2 storage, the Redmi 17 5G presents a compelling option for users prioritizing performance and future-proofing, while the 4G variant offers an even more budget-conscious entry into the series.
