JSW Motors, the group’s independent mobility arm, is reportedly joining forces with Chinese auto giant Chery to bring a formidable SUV to our shores: the Jetour T2. And the best part? It will wear the JSW badge, marking the group’s ambitious entry as a standalone manufacturer.

Looks That Kill: The ‘Defender’ Vibe

One look at the Jetour T2, and you might mistake it for a Land Rover Defender. It flaunts that classic, rugged, boxy silhouette that Indian SUV lovers adore. It is big, bold, and unapologetically masculine. Standing at 4.7 meters long and 2 meters wide, it is physically larger than the Tata Safari. But unlike the ladder-frame trucks we are used to, this beast is built on a monocoque chassis. This means you get the “road presence” of a tank but the ride comfort of a luxury sedan.

The Heart of the Beast: Going Green & Mean

In a country obsessed with “Kitna deti hai?” (Mileage), JSW is playing it smart. They aren’t bringing the standard petrol-guzzlers. Instead, the India-spec Jetour T2 is expected to feature a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Under the hood, it will likely pack a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. This isn’t just an import job. JSW is serious about the “Make in India” tag. The SUV will be locally assembled at the company’s brand-new Greenfield facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. Local assembly is key to keeping the taxes low and the price tag competitive.

If you are already reaching for your chequebook, hold on until the third quarter (July–September) of this year. As for the damage to your wallet? While official numbers are under wraps, industry experts estimate a price bracket of ₹40–45 Lakhs. At this price point, the Jetour T2 is aiming its guns directly at the segment king, the Toyota Fortuner, and the premium Jeep Meridian.

The Jetour T2 represents a bold new chapter for JSW. By betting on hybrids rather than pure EVs or diesel, they are targeting a sweet spot in the Indian market.
