India South Korea defence cooperation

Tech Desk: India and South Korea are significantly deepening their defence ties, with a renewed focus on enhancing joint production and logistics, marking a pivotal moment in their strategic partnership. This commitment was powerfully reaffirmed during the 10th India–Republic of Korea Joint Committee Meeting on Defence Industries and Logistics Cooperation held recently in New Delhi. Co-chaired by Dinesh Mahur, Additional Secretary for Defence Production in India, and Kim Il Dong, Vice Minister of South Korea’s Defence Acquisition Program Administration, the high-level discussions aimed to meticulously review existing collaborations and forge ambitious new pathways for robust industrial partnerships.

The summit served as a critical platform for fostering deeper industrial cooperation, actively encouraging joint manufacturing initiatives, and streamlining crucial logistics support for both nations’ armed forces. Leading defence enterprises from both sides played a vital role, with India represented by major players like Larsen & Toubro and Bharat Earth Movers Limited, while South Korea saw participation from aerospace and technology giants including Hanwha Aerospace, Korean Air, and Korea Aerospace Industries, all exploring powerful synergies and future projects.

Further underscoring this burgeoning alliance, Vice Minister Kim Il Dong engaged in a high-level bilateral interaction with India’s Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth. During their discussion, both leaders unequivocally reiterated a shared commitment to expanding collaboration across critical defence production lines and fortifying supply chain logistics. This landmark tenth meeting not only highlights the growing strategic convergence between New Delhi and Seoul but also cements their joint resolve to co-develop advanced defence technologies, enhance military readiness, and build resilient defence supply chains vital for security and stability across the Indo-Pacific region. This move signifies a stronger, more integrated approach to regional defence.
