Tech Desk: The Income Tax Employees Federation (ITEF), Bengal Circle, marked its 75th Platinum Jubilee with a powerful dual initiative in Kolkata: a walkathon and a tree plantation drive aimed at fostering environmental conservation and health awareness. The impactful program, launched from the Income Tax Building premises in Dharmatala, saw active participation from tax department staff and officials.

The day commenced with Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Ashutosh Sahu inaugurating the walkathon by releasing white doves, symbolizing peace and a fresh start. Participants marched with a clear message: promoting environmental protection, increasing green cover, and advocating for healthy lifestyles. Following the walk, a tree plantation ceremony was held within the Income Tax Building compound, where various saplings were planted, reinforcing a collective commitment to ecological balance and a greener planet for future generations.

Ashutosh Sahu emphasized the critical role of tree plantation in combating the escalating impacts of climate change and pollution. He also highlighted the necessity of regular walking and exercise for building a healthy lifestyle. Sushanta Chakraborty, General Secretary of the Federation, noted that the Platinum Jubilee celebrations were not solely festive but deeply rooted in social responsibility, reflecting the organization’s 75-year legacy of supporting employees and contributing to the tax department’s growth.

This vital message of an eco-friendly society and health consciousness resonated strongly with all attendees. The Federation also confirmed that similar walkathon and tree plantation programs were simultaneously conducted across various Income Tax offices in West Bengal and Sikkim, underscoring a widespread commitment. The ITEF plans a year-long series of social, cultural, and sports activities to honor its heritage and amplify its societal contributions.
