Apple’s ‘Pro and Tell’: New MacBook Pro OLED Touchscreen Models Could Arrive This Week With Higher Price Tag

MacBook Pro OLED Touchscreen

Tech Desk: Apple is reportedly on the cusp of unveiling new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models this week, featuring groundbreaking OLED displays and, for the first time, touchscreen support. This significant upgrade, however, is expected to come with a notably higher price tag, potentially adding up to $500 to the starting cost. These highly anticipated machines are rumored to debut at Apple’s “Pro and Tell” showcase in Los Angeles on October 28.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the refreshed MacBook Pros will retain a familiar design but introduce a vibrant OLED panel, replacing the current mini-LED technology. A notable design tweak includes a Dynamic Island at the top of the display, enhancing notifications and ongoing activities on macOS. While the devices won’t see an M5 Pro or M5 Max chip upgrade, the focus is squarely on display innovation and touch interaction.

The new touchscreen functionality will be seamlessly integrated with macOS Golden Gate, an updated operating system designed to adapt dynamically to user input. This means controls will intelligently adjust whether you’re using touch or the trackpad, with features like menus appearing around your finger and an optimized Dock. Apple envisions touch as an *additional* input method, offering flexibility without replacing traditional keyboard and trackpad usage. Current mini-LED models are expected to be phased out after an initial period of co-existence.
